Greek Style Lasagna (Pastitsio)

Greek cuisine is a staple in a lot of people’s kitchens. There are so many delicious dishes! This dish is typically referred to as “Greek lasagna” likely because of the layering!

1 454g package

Gluten-Free Penne Pasta

2 Tbsp

Extra-Virgin Olive Oil

1 lb

Ground Beef

1 med

Yellow Onion

1/2 tsp

Sea Salt

1/2 tsp

Black Pepper

Garlic Cloves

2 cups

Passata

1/2 cup

Unsalted Butter

2/3 cup

Gluten-Free All-Purpose Flour

4 cups

Whole Milk

1 1/2 cup

Parmesan Cheese

Instructions

Instructions for meat sauce: In a saucepan, on medium-low heat, add the olive oil and grated onion. Sauté for 2-3 minutes.

Add the ground beef and break it up. Add in the salt, pepper, minced garlic and stir.

Cook for about 7-8 minutes or until there is no more pink.

Stir in the passata and lower the heat. Simmer for about 20 minutes or until the sauce thickens.

While the meat sauce is cooking, cook pasta according to the package to make it al dente. Strain and set aside.

Instructions for bechamel sauce: In a small saucepan, over medium heat, melt the butter.

Add the flour and continuously whisk until smooth. You don’t want the flour to burn!

Pour in half the milk and keep whisking.

Pour the rest of the milk and continue to whisk.

Cook until it starts to thicken up, about 7-8 minutes. Keep stirring!
